BIBLE IN A YEAR: Gen 43-46
TIME BOUND DECISIONS
MEMORIZE: "While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation" (Hebrews 3:15)
READ: Hebrews 3:7-15
In Luke 15:17-20, after the prodigal son compared his past with his present estate, he resolved to return to his father. Being a servant under his father, was far better than being a servant in his present circumstance. From this we learn that being a servant in God’s Kingdom is by far preferable to being a lord in the kingdom of darkness. The poorest in God’s Kingdom is richer than the wealthiest in the kingdom of Satan. It is better to enter Heaven a poor fellow, than enter hell with all your wealth. No matter how bad or challenging circumstances may be to a believer in Christ, it is still far better than the best Satan can ever offer his devotees! Never be deceived into believing otherwise.
The prodigal son realized his wrong and decided to retrace his steps homewards. And it was so. The lesson here is that there is a time element attached to any decision. Hence, Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, ‘To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven’. In-decision or delayed decision can be a dangerous thing. It is better to take a decision and make a mistake, than refusing to make a decision for fear of making a mistake. Many believers come to a point of decision concerning a crucial aspect of their lives, yet two months, five months or even one year has passed without taking a step. Procrastination is a deep pit that those who delay in taking a necessary step could fall in. Regret is usually common to such people. The prodigal son realized that he needed to return to his father: he got up and went. If you have realized becoming a born again Christian is a better option, don’t delay.
Our reading says such a delay is the same thing as hardening your heart. The truth is that most Kingdom-based decisions cannot wait. Once the Lord has given you a direction, He expects you to follow it immediately. If you have a pending restitution, immediately settle it. If someone has offended you, immediately forgive because the Lord returns like a thief in the night. If God has shown you the need to become fire brand, immediately dump the cloak of Luke warmness, or else you will become history. What are the pending issues in your life that adequately to them. Are you saying you will serve God at a later date? Supposing you die before then? You are not getting any younger!
ACTIONPOINT: List pending issues. Write three possible steps that could be taken for each of them. Prayerfully take the decisions.
