BIBLE IN A YEAR: Deut 17-19
ADVENTURE IN CHRIST
MEMORIZE: "Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 15:26)
READ: Acts 15:23-26
The parable of the lost son stated in Luke 15:11-32, presents us with more lessons. In verse 12, we discover that while the elder brother kept to himself, it was the younger son who dared his father for the portion of his inheritance. This reveals one salient fact: the younger, the more adventurous. Adventure is tied up with youth. Not too many elderly people want to go mountain climbing, or sky diving. God has great expectations from youths. Ecclesiastes 12:1 says the best time to remember God is in the days of youth. Old age comes with its own challenges. If you want to do exploits for God, it is now. You can predict the end of a youth by what he or she is addicted to. If your youthful days are firmly established in Christ, your old age will definitely be glorious. Caleb and Joshua were two youths who went on an adventure for God’s Kingdom. Forty five years later, they were still standing tall, and retained their physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual strength. As parents, ensure you give your children a solid Christian foundation. Lead them to Christ. Teach them God’s Word and lead by example. If your child has such a godly foundation, even when he or she strays from the pathway of life, the fellow will be able to retrace his way to God. Without this foundation, the fellow may be completely lost.
“Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 15:26). Paul and Barnabas were also youths who went on an adventure for Christ. They put their lives on the line just to please the Master. How adventurous have you been for God? What risks have you taken for Jesus? Anyone who will finish the Christian race strong must secure his or her youthful foundation in Christ. Similarly, the prodigal son made an attempt at living on his own. He wanted to be independent. The moment he got his freedom and left the home, he messed up. How you raise your children or wards will determine how they will live away from home. Many children and youths who had the opportunity of going to the boarding school or higher institutions have betrayed their family upbringing. Like the prodigal son, as soon as they left home, they dabbled into all kinds of silly youthful lusts. This puts a question mark on how they were raised. If your children cannot sustain the Christian upbringing they were given at home, it shows that what they got was the counterfeit. What is inside your children will be revealed when they go out. What have you invested in them?
ACTIONPOINT : Some are taking great risks for the Kingdom while some others shy away from minimum risks. Heaven rewards great risk takers more.
