CHASTISEMENT

MEMORIZE: "If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?" (Hebrews 12:7)

READ: Hebrews 12:5-11

The way God demonstrates that you are loved and special to Him, is by correcting you whenever you make a mistake. When a man singles his child from his peers, and gives him the beating he will never forget for wrong doing, it is because he has a lot at stake in that child. God has a lot at stake in you hence He will never sweep any offense under the carpet. You can gauge God’s love and presence in your life by the frequency and type of chastening you are exposed to whenever you veer off from the path of righteousness. If you are sinning but without divine reprimand, it is most likely God has rejected you!

Moses was beloved by God. He walked so close to Him that it is recorded he had face to face discussions with the Almighty God. When he slipped at the waters of Meribah, God brought out His cane: he was to terminate his ministry before its completion, and forfeit the promised land that he had embarked on some 40 years before. That’s tough. The closer you get to God, the farther you should be from anything He detests. Remember, being the loving and merciful God does not make Him any less the Consuming fire. While ascending the ladder in your relationship with God, ensure you are not taking any sinful habit with you. You could be burnt!

A pastor was informed that one of his ministers had lost his only son. Disturbed, he asked God, Why, as he prepared to go to the hospital. God told him that it was as a result of the minister’s disobedience, and warned him not to pray for the deceased. On getting to the hospital, amidst the serene atmosphere, he saw the lifeless baby on the bed. With everyone staring at him wondering what he would do, he felt they might think he is not caring. So he laid hands on the child and prayed for about 30 minutes, but nothing happened. Later, he observed that certain graces in his life disappeared. About a year later, during a programme where there was strong repentance and calls for mercy, the Spirit asked him if he noticed that he stopped feeling the fire in his right hand for a while. And he said Yes. The Spirit told him that grace was withdrawn the day he disobeyed and prayed for the baby. However, it had been restored. You can avoid divine reprimand.

ACTIONPOINT
Total obedience to God is the way to prevent divine reprimand. How obedient are you?

BENEFITS OF HIS LOVE

MEMORIZE: "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things" (Romans 8:32)

READ: 1 John 3:1-2

One outstanding benefit of God’s incomparable love is that it translates sinners to saints, strangers into sons. It is only in Christianity that adherents can claim to be children of God. Some religionists would claim being creatures and slaves of God. Thank God I am a child of God. I may be unknown to the president, governor or any other influential person, it does not matter. What matters is that I am a child of God. This is why you must not toy with your right to divine sonship.

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31). Another benefit of God’s incomparable love is that it makes the beneficiary invincible. Romans 8:37 says we are more than conquerors not because we can give, pray, fast, etc. but because of His love. Is any witch or wizard waiting to destroy you? The assurance of Christ’s love shows that such a fellow is simply wasting his or her time. Every gathering of eaters of flesh and drinkers of blood against you shall be scattered in Jesus’ Name.

Another benefit of God’s love is that it guarantees the meeting of all our needs. Romans 8:32 says, if God could give us His best gift - His only begotten Son, what else can He not give to us? This scripture is very reassuring. It means that there is no limit to what God can give you because of His love for you. Love is the basis on which all blessings are delivered from the Heavenly Store House. The Lord will grant you all your good desires this year.

Romans 8:28 says if you can reciprocate God’s love, you will derive another benefit: everything will work in your favor. That means whatever situation you find yourself will produce a testimony. Whatever happens to you will not be determined by the desires, whims and caprices of those behind them, but by love. Love is a very powerful force. When you have love, you will always win. Several battles that cannot be won by return of fire for fire, can be settled by love.
Do you love God in return for all He has done for you? If you do, it will show in your attitude to His Word. To what extent do you obey Him? If you love Him you will obey all He has commanded you to the letter.

ACTIONPOINT
Prayerfully fish out two people who are opposed to you, and show them the love of Christ
via visits, gifts, assistance, care, praying for them, etc.

LIKE ELDAD AND MEDAD

MEMORIZE: "Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked"(Proverbs 10:6)

READ: Numbers 11:24-29

In the parable of the Ten virgins recorded in Matthew 25:1-13, just because the five foolish virgins were not present at the time the bridegroom arrived, they were refused entry. They lost out for good! All past sacrifices, preparations and even the fresh oil they just bought were wasted. But today’s reading tells us of a similar scenario with a different outcome. Seventy elders had been chosen by Moses as helpers in the ministry. They were asked to gather in the tabernacle at a particular time. The Lord descended in a loud, and as He discussed with Moses, He took part of the Spirit on him and put on the chosen elders. And they began to prophesy. Two of them, Eldad and Medad were still in the camp. They did not keep the appointment at the tabernacle yet right where they were, they received what those who were there received.

We learn from this that God is a God of mercy. He understands what we go through. Even when He fixes appointments, He leaves room for some that may find it difficult to meet up. It is certain that if Eldad and Medad had deliberately refused to go to the place of appointment, their disobedience would have robbed them of the blessing. Yet, it is possible for obedient Christians who are legitimately hindered from keeping an appointment with God to receive their apportioned blessings. For example, if you have been a regular participant at the monthly Holy Ghost Service in camp, but on a particular month, after planning to attend, you took ill or were involved in a situation beyond your control, you could key into the service with faith from where you are, and benefit from all the blessings God released at the camp. However, the disobedient who stayed back out of laziness will not be so favored.

Another lesson here is that some heads attract blessings and cannot be bypassed. While some people attend powerful services on regular basis but cannot point out one single blessing received, the likes of Eldad and Medad have lost count of blessings received from every service. Are you passable or unpassable whenever blessings are released? You can be like the duo. How? Prepare adequately for every service. On arrival, be single-minded and look up to God in faith. Pay attention to the Word and take notes. Believe God’s Word and His prophet and receive your blessing. On your return home, continue to thank God for what He has done. Make pleasing God, your hobby. Serve Him with gladness. Restitute your ways. Any blessing that comes by, will stop over at your place.

ACTIONPOINT
Pray for God to give us God fearing, people serving, and faithful leaders in this nation.

ATTRACTING HEAVEN'S ATTENTION.

MEMORIZE: "When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee" (Mark 2:5)

READ: Mark 10:46-52

Whenever Heaven visits the earth, not everyone gets attended to. Usually in the midst of a multitude, only a few individuals get Heaven’s attention. In today’s reading, and Matthew 8:1-3, a great multitude followed Jesus, but only one fellow got Heaven’s attention. You will get Heaven’s attention today! Occasionally, it is Heaven that decides the fellow to be attended to. In the name of Jesus, Heaven will decide in your favor this season. In many cases, it is the fellow who desires Heaven’s attention, that provokes divine selection.

How can you attract heaven’s attention? By a heavenly life-style. In Job 1:8, God bragged about Job to Satan. God carefully watches and notes those who do His will; Anytime He is passing by, He would have identified such a fellow for special attention. Have you refused to compromise? Have you remained true and faithful to God in the midst of fire, and adverse winds? Continue to stand firm. The Lord notes all your good works. Very soon, they will announce you to the King of kings. Another way of securing Heaven’s attention is by demonstrating rugged faith. In Mark 2:1-12, Jesus saw the faith of four young men and healed their friend. Sometime ago, someone wrote me saying, “Sir, I don’t need you to come and lay hands on me. As soon as you read this letter, I know my miracle has reached me”.

I was dancing in my car while reading the letter because I was assured the individual would get his miracle. A week later, the fellow wrote to say he is certain I read his letter because he has received his miracle. Release your faith today and you will receive your miracle. You can also provoke Heaven to attend to you through giving. A young and wealthy king who needed wisdom, started to research on how to get Heaven’s attention. One day, he decided to do what nobody had ever done. In 2 Chronicles 1:6-12, he offered 1000 burnt offerings to God. The priest could not believe his eyes. God took notice and that night, He visited him and gave him something that makes him remain unique till now. In Mark 12:42-44, a poor widow gave all she had and Jesus took notice. Some people have continued to peg their offerings and seeds. Break the ceiling over your gift and give something you have never given so as to be noticed by God.

ACTIONPOINT
There are at least one million things nobody has ever done. Think of just one of them. Do it to God's glory and you will get His attention.

EARNING GOD'S TRUST?

MEMORIZE: "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep" (John 10:11)

READ: John 10:6-11

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee” (1 Timothy 4:16).
Another area a shepherd should watch over the flock is in continuity in sound doctrines and in practice of the same. In Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he charged the latter in verse 13 of the first chapter: “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus”. A shepherd should stick with the undiluted Word of God to earn the respect of the sheep. Today, in many circles, leaders are diluting the Word of God with human wisdom and philosophy. Any leader who feels he or she knows God’s Word more than God, has out-lived his or her relevance both to God and His flock. Revelation says you must not doctor the Scriptures. Also, there is need to put whatever you preach or teach into practice. This is an effective way to watch over your flock. Until your subordinates see you practicing what you teach, they may never do so. A doer’s life-style adds compulsion, expediency and credibility to your message. John 10:4 says it is the duty of the shepherd to lead before the sheep can follow.

In today’s passage, another area the shepherd must watch is in identifying and preventing the wolves and thieves that are after the sheep. It is the caring and watchful shepherd that will easily notice areas of backsliding, compromise and pitfalls. If you are not watchful, God will not give you the information that will place you ahead of events in your local assembly. It is a shame if Heaven bypasses the under- shepherd concerning events in the lives of members or family. During a praise session, the Spirit said the spirit of death had been sent against somebody there, but that the Lord had helped the individual to avert that death. Members thanked God and left. About a week later, news came that a young lady under the influence of certain unforeseen forces attempted suicide. She was taken to the hospital and survived it because God had earlier revealed Satan’s plan and annulled it. Are you watching effectively over your family, church or the flock in your care? Have you earned God’s trust?

BEGGING FOR DEMOTION?

MEMORIZE: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).

READ: Acts 18: 13-16

If God is asked to choose between a worshipper and a worker, whom do you think He will choose? The worshipper of course! Psalms 22:3 says, “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel”. A king cannot be separated from his throne unless there is trouble.
The throne of the Almighty in the hearts of men is the praise they render to Him. When God sits comfortably on His throne, anything can happen. If you are not a true worshipper of God, it means you have kept God standing concerning your affairs. If an important visitor knocks at your door, would you barrage him with requests when he is standing outside? You did not welcome him in. You did not offer him a chair to sit on. You did not give him a cup of cold water. Would such a shabbily treated guest be happy to oblige your requests? If you do not worship God, He has no throne to operate from in your life and situation.

According to John 4:22, God is not seeking for workers but worshippers. He knows if you can be a successful worshipper, you will surely succeed as a worker. God is looking for a true worshipper in your nation, state, tribe, clan, community, and family. May He find you as one. If you compare David and king Saul, you will observe that the latter never wrote a Psalm. He hardly sang or danced for the Lord. On the other hand, David was a great worshipper of Jehovah. He wrote most of the Psalms. God cannot be bribed with material things. One way David got away with his excesses, was through spirit-led worship. In spite of his short comings, David remains in God’s eternal plan because of his worship and heart. King Saul failed because he was too big to worship God. Today, it appears the more the Lord lifts people up, the less they worship Him. Pastors and Christian leaders have become too big to praise, worship and dance before God.

This is a dangerous development because such people are indirectly begging God to demote them. Those days, you would sing, dance and praise God without caring about those around you. That was what God saw in David and took him up. That was also what God saw in you that birthed your uplift. How is it today? You have become so self conscious like Micah - David’s wife. Before you take one or two dance steps, you will look around to know who is watching. You caution yourself in worship because of your position. God is very unhappy. If taking you back to the dunghill where you began will make you a better worshipper, God prefers you there. Use quality praise and worship to justify your present position!

ACTIONPOINT
If you cannot worship God, you will worship Satan or yourself and bring the axe on yourself. Repent and give God worship.

DYING FIRE?

MEMORIZE: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).

READ: Acts 18: 13-16

When God requests that we draw nearer to Him, it is for our good. When divine fire freely burns in your life, you will automatically become a solution to the problems of those around you. When problems become testimonies through God’s grace on your life, you suddenly become famous. And other good things follow. If there is anything you should ask God for this year, it is for more of His fire. The greater the divine fire operating inside you, the easier you possess your possessions. It is a shame for a spirit-filled believer to run from Satan’s errand boys and girls. If God’s fire is on you, Satan or his cohorts will not be able to defecate on you. Due to absence of divine fire, many believers today are carrying different yokes and loads of the enemy. Every satanic yoke on your shoulders is destroyed today in Jesus’ Name.

Whether you will remain a victim or conqueror is a decision you have to make. The Early church was a fiery church. God was always in the house, and so anything could happen. Agents of darkness that came in were exposed and disgraced. Those who came with satanic schemes were dealt with. In Acts 5:111, a couple who could not discern this fire was roasted by it, because they lied. Today, we tolerate things the Early church regarded as a taboo. This is why the fire of revival is fast dying.

“And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.” (Acts 5:11). The presence of the fire brought fear to all and sundry. One thing that is lacking in today’s church, is the absence of the fear of God. A brother told his pastor he was travelling to the East. A sister also of that local assembly told the same pastor she was travelling in another direction. But unknown to members, they had secretly arranged to meet at a particular hotel to have a ‘good time’. While they were feeding their flesh, the Holy Spirit exposed it. By the time they returned, they were shocked to be told, welcome from your adulterous trip in such and such a hotel. Why are ushers and pastors stealing from church money today? It is because of the absence of God’s fire. Why are leaders comfortably sinning yet remaining in ministry? It is because the Pentecostal fire has gone out. Ask God for the return of the Pentecostal fire in your life, family, and church. A pastor who cannot affect his congregation in holiness lacks God’s fire.

ACTIONPOINT
According to Proverbs 19:23, evil has one powerful repellent - the fear of God. Ask God for grace to wear this covering always.

GODLY SEED

MEMORIZE: "And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth" (Malachi 2:15)

READ: Genesis 16:1-12

Abraham is an example of a man who sowed a good seed into a bad ground. God cut an everlasting covenant with Abraham and promised to bless him and generations after him. When he and his wife were tired of waiting on God for a child, his wife offered her slave girl, Hagar to Abraham, to bear children for her. And Abraham jumped at it. He went into her and she had Ishmael. About 14 years later, Sarah had Isaac. One thing worthy of note in this passage is that while it took Sarah over 25 years of waiting for the promised Isaac, Hagar immediately conceived the first time Abraham slept with her. Today, many have equally observed that conception comes easy to unbelievers, especially fornicators who do not know the value of child bearing, while many God fearing sisters have to wait for some years before having a child. They have been asking, ‘Why’? “And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth” (Malachi 2:15).

There are two types of seeds a man can produce. Godly and ungodly seeds. A godly seed is a seed with God inside it. An ungodly seed is a seed with no place for God. God is not interested in ungodly seeds. They mean nothing to Him. If a million ungodly seeds perish in one day, God loses nothing. But a godly seed means everything to God. One reason God is involved in a true Christian marriage is because He is looking for godly seeds. It takes a combination of God’s Spirit with the seed and egg of the couple to produce a godly seed. Satan knows this very well hence he tries to obstruct conception of godly seeds. Every godly seed is a threat to the satanic kingdom and is capable of causing unprecedented damage to their operations. This is one reason believers’ conception is actively fought. No matter how the devil tries, your godly seeds will come forth in Jesus’ Name.

The worst Satan and his demons can do is delay the conception of your godly seeds, particularly the first one, as long as God permits him. But he cannot prevent them because with the same zeal he is trying to hinder, God is working things out for you. God loves godly seeds. Unfortunately, some Christian couples meet but cannot have godly seeds because of in-house fighting, strife, quarrels, wickedness to one’s spouse. God is never found in such a place hence such believers have ordinary seeds. If you have been fighting your spouse, you are driving away godly seeds that can impact your life and the Kingdom of God. Repent and restitute to your spouse today.

ACTIONPOINT
The state of heart of a Christian couple and prevailing circumstances surrounding conception and the agreement level with the Holy Ghost will determine the seed they get.

WHAT INVENTION?

MEMORIZE: "Let the floods clap their hands:let the hills be joyful together" (Psalms 98:8)

READ: Romans 1:29-32

According to Psalms 115:4-5, idolatry negatively affects the idolater. Some idolaters receive the spirit of dumbness and deafness from the idols they serve. No medical effort can correct such spiritual defect. If you do not want to become dumb or deaf, flee from idols. “They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat” (Psalms 115:7). Some people with withered hands received it from their idols. Some people are physically bent and can hardly straighten themselves because the spirit inside them is bent. When you have a lying spirit in you, you will display it through anointed lies. If the spirit of greed is in you, it will compel you to become greedy. The spirit that in-dwells you is the god that you truly serve. You cannot serve God and idols at the same time.

Some people have an unusual body odor. Their offensive smell always repel people, especially helpers. They have used the best of medicated soaps and sponges, and applied the strongest deodorants to no avail. They smell because the spirit inside them smells. The day that spirit goes, the foul smell will follow. In the mean time, that is the god in their lives. Similarly, because idols cannot walk, those who serve them suddenly stop walking. Some people have become lame because their god is lame. Some idolaters are not physically lame but have remained on the same spot for long. All efforts to defy stagnancy has failed because their god is a lame god. Whatever ‘god’ that is in you, Jesus Christ can bring about your deliverance today. Receive Him as your Lord. Break every tie or covenant with previous gods, idols and spirits. And go for deliverance prayers from a genuine servant of God.

“They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them” (Psalms 115:8). This tells us that you are like your invention. An invention is an idea borne out of the inner recesses of the heart. If you are light, you will invent or create light. If you are darkness, you cannot create light. Your invention speaks volume of who you are. If corrupt or defiling words emanate from your mouth, it shows that you are defiled. If lies freely flow from your mouth, it shows the father of liars is on the throne of your heart. If you are living in lust, the spirit of lust is at the helm of affairs in your life. Some people invent good while others evil. What do you invent? You cannot give what you don’t have, except you want to remain a hypocrite. What spirit is controlling you? Go to God for help.

ACTIONPOINT
Put an end to bad inventions. If God truly resides in you, prove it by your inventions.

THE KING DIED

MEMORIZE: "No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself, I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father" (John 10:18)

READ: John 10:7-18

The King died. What could be responsible for the death of any king? It could be as a result of old age, illness, accident, assassination, etc. Talking of the King of kings, is it possible for Him to die by sickness? It is impossible because He is life personified. Any germ, bacterium or virus causing sickness and disease that mistakenly touches His body dies instantly. All through His 33 years on earth, there was no record that He was sick for once. He could never have been. Could He die of old age? Hebrews 1:8-12 says His years do not fail because He is the Ancient of Days, hence He cannot die of old age. He is called the I Am that I Am because His existence is not determined or affected by fleeting moments, seasons, and years. He is ever constant, operating from dateless past to a dateless future (Exodus 3:13-14).

Can the King of kings die by accident? The disciples thought so. In Luke 8:2225, when their ship was becoming filled with water, they were all panic stricken, thinking the end had come for them and Jesus, who was fast asleep. It was then they realized that all elemental forces were at His beck and call. He knows tomorrow, hence nothing takes Him by surprise. Can the King die through assassination or murder? Before His ministry was over, there were several plots to kill Him. The Herodian council met. Hired assassins were sent after Him, but He either withdrew Himself or walked through them unnoticed (Matthew 12:14-15). He knew their thoughts before hand, hence could never be a victim of assassins. If you have Him in you, assassins and evil plotters will fail over your life. Sickness cannot kill you. Old age will not be responsible for your death. You will only go when He says it is time to come home. I rebuke the spirit of death sent against you and return it to sender.

What was therefore responsible for the death of the King of kings? He died only because He allowed Himself to be killed. In John 10:17-18, although no man could take the life of Jesus Christ, yet at the end of His ministry, He voluntarily laid it down. When Peter tried to resist His arrest, He told him not to bother because by His side were some legions of angels that could wipe out the entire human race in a day. He asked them to spectate because His time to die had come. You shall not die before your appointed time. All plans to take your life will add to it. Draw close to Him and maintain a glorious relationship with Him.

FAULTY FOUNDATIONS

MEMORIZE: "But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation (James 5:12)

READ: 2 Peter 1:10-14

If you are a leader but still lying, you are on your way to hell. While planting parishes, some leaders and senior pastors make all kinds of promises only to later renege on them. They are playing with hell fire! Revelation 21:8 says all categories of liars have a common eternal reservation in hell. You have no integrity until you overcome the sin of lies. A lying leader has no value before God because God is Truth. If you are living in lies, you are empty of the Truth - the Lord Jesus Christ. A single lie is all it takes to damn an individual in hell! Are you still lying? Repent and turn a new leaf today!

“But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation” (James 5:12). Romans 8:1 and John 3:18 say the day you came into the Kingdom of God, the condemnation that hung over you was removed. Yet the above scripture says those without integrity, return to the status of a condemned criminal. Lie is a killer! It robs you of all godly virtues. It comes as harmless yet its effects can be most devastating. Heaven seekers do not swear. Their word is their bond. The fact that they are peculiar makes it impossible for them to fail over promises made. Their uniqueness makes God to give them preferential treatment. This explains why what demotes others, promotes them; what kills others, impacts life to them.

“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth” (2 Peter 1:12). If you want to be established, lay your foundation on truth. Many have laid the foundation of their ministry, career, family, business and relationship on lies. Sooner or later that foundation will crumble. If you gained admission into a higher institution through forged certificates, repent, restitute and start all over again. All ‘official’ lies must stop. Sign correct time of arrival. Stop lying about number of children just to reduce tax deductions. Go and apologize to those you have lied to or against. You cannot afford to miss Heaven!

ACTIONPOINT: Surrounding every evil is the garb of falsehood. Any enduring blessing must be shielded from falsehood.

SHEPHERDING: WATCH

MEMORIZE: "I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved" (Habakkuk 2:1).
READ: Jude 1-5

In Luke 2:7-14, the shepherds who kept watch at night received angelic visitation. Not every shepherd received it. The shepherds who had gone home were oblivious of the good tidings. If God has put you over souls of men, you are a shepherd. If you occupy any ministerial office or have been given a ministry gift, you are a shepherd. While Jesus Christ is the Chief Shepherd, the pastor is an under-shepherd watching over the flock by day and night. If you are the sleeping shepherd, you will not receive angelic visitations. One reason many leaders have no divine encounters or revelations is because they fail to watch. Shepherds are meant to watch over their flock. If you cannot watch over the affairs of your flock, you are a phony. It is only the shepherd who sets time apart to prayerfully watch over the flock while they sleep, that is worth its salt.

God is the Chief Shepherd. He watches over us. He refuses to sleep because of the sheep. As a shepherd over God’s flock, keep sleep out of your eyes to enable you watch over your flock in their unguarded moments. It is when shepherds sleep that enemies sow tares into their sheep. A true shepherd will not give the devil any space to penetrate his sheep. There are certain areas a shepherd should watch over his sheep. The first is in the area of doctrine. Several false doctrines are flying in the air waves. Today’s reading talks of certain men who sneaked into their midst and polluted the church with false doctrines. They could do so because the shepherd was asleep.

If you are watching over the flock, you will occasionally ask to know what they believe about certain fundamental issues and thereafter use the Word of God to guide them. If the sheep is well taught, there will be no need to listen to false preachers. Another area the shepherd should watch over the flock is feeding. It is the duty of the shepherd to lead the sheep where they should graze. In John 21:15-17, Jesus reminds us to feed His lambs (young converts) and His sheep. If the shepherd does not make efforts to serve rich, hot, delicious and life transforming meals to the congregation regularly, they will grow with some deficiencies or even starve. Many church members are hungry for the truth of God’s Word. The Word of God is scarce and can barely sustain their spirit man. As a shepherd, what kind of food are you serving your children? If they are satisfied, there will be no room for the filth of false preachers. Watch over the flock!

THE HEAVENLY WINDFriday April 18, 2008

MEMORIZE: "And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting” (Acts 2:2)

READ: Acts 2:1-4

In examination of John 4:23-24 reveals certain foundational truths. First it says, God is a spirit. This means God is not a man. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”. The fact that God is a spirit assures us of answered prayers. God is committed to His promises. A knowledge of this truth is important in worship as it stirs up faith in the worshipper that worship time and effort are never wasted. Has the Lord given you a promise that has not been fulfilled? Hold on to it. He will surely bring it to pass. God is a spirit and not man, hence He cannot be limited by anything capable of limiting human beings.

Another implication of God as a spirit is that He can suddenly turn a weakling into an invincible warrior on contact. Just like air in a tyre enables it to bear immense weight like a trailer loaded with goods, so does God empower weaklings to do the impossible. God as a spirit reminds us that wind is a type of the Holy Spirit. On the day of Pentecost, the presence of the Holy Spirit was symbolized by a rushing mighty wind. Then fire (Acts 2:2-4). When a football is filled with air, it becomes lighter and wears out everyone who kicks it. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you become a light weight as He takes away every satanic yoke. After all, Jesus says His burden is light. If you want to overcome heaviness, depression and discouragement, be constantly filled with the Holy Ghost.

In Judges 15:14-16, Samson was bound by the enemies. But when the Heavenly wind filled this human ball, he broke loose and turned those enemies into a dump site. Have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit? Praise God. Are you regularly filled with the Holy Spirit? It is very important so that you can be a vessel for God’s use in the miraculous. As you allow Heaven’s mighty wind to fill you up, you will become a centre of activities. Demons will bow to you. Situations and circumstances will obey your commands. It is when you are filled with the Holy Spirit that you have power with God and men. That is where God wants you to be. If you feel powerless, it is because you have little or nothing of the Heavenly wind. Let Him fill you today. Pray in the Spirit. Study, memorize and mediate on the Word. Worship the Holy Spirit today.

BECOMING RELEVANT

Memory Verse: "The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool" (Psalms 110:1)

READ: Psalms 110:1-3

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: The LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalms 84:11).

Many of us claim the above scripture and expect to receive good things, forgetting to pay the ultimate price. What stands you out in Heaven is the price you paid. The price you pay for God’s Kingdom determines your heavenly rating. It also determines your heavenly receipts. If you cannot pay the price in prayer, you may never see the miraculous take place in your life. God’s special blessings are not for lazy ones. To become God’s prince, Jacob wrestled with God until he lost a leg. Whenever people saw him and asked what happened, he told them it was the price he had to pay. But for that price, the Israeli nation would have been called by another name- the name of whoever paid the price!

To become what they are in God’s Kingdom, many lost several valuable things. Peter abandoned his profession. Paul sacrificed his reputation and certificates on God’s altar. Some lost their freedom. Many lost their friends. Zacchaeus lost his wealth and possessions. Some lost their sleep and rest. Some lost their families. Yet today Christians want God to use them like the patriarchs of old without lifting a finger. If God obliges, there will be a protest march in Heaven. If you hope to get anointing by meeting an anointed man of God to lay hands, or just pray for the anointing to transfer to you, you are lazy. Such people may never go beyond average!

God will only hear those who follow Christ’s steps and pay the ultimate price, to secure their desire. Anything you ask God is possible. But you must pay the price in obedience, right-standing with God, tithing, praise and worship, regular study of God’s Word, heart felt and persistent prayer, whole hearted service, etc. Your trip to your breakthrough may suffer repeated abortions until you pay the price. There is a price to be paid for God to use you these last days. Many people in positions today are irrelevant in God’s plan. They have no part to play in it because God has rejected them like king Saul. Those who cannot pay the price may not enter Heaven. Make up your mind today. You can be part of the relevant few. Wait and be endued with fire from God.

LOSING PRECIOUS SEEDS?

MEMORIZE: "But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul" (Proverbs 6:32)

READ: Genesis 4:1-7

“And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD” (Genesis 4:1).

Until Adam had intimate knowledge of Eve, there was no conception. Who you know determines what you will conceive. If you want to conceive good ideas, children and blessings, draw nearer to God. Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit - she drew very close to Him and in the end, she conceived Jesus Christ. The fruit or product of your conception reveals the distance between you and God. Similarly, every seed you sow becomes a tree. When Adam knew Eve intimately, a seed was planted in her, which germinated and became a tree. Each time you truly draw close to God in humility, worship, praise and adoration, a seed is planted in you. If you have noticed, you will find that whenever you are in God’s presence, some winning thoughts, directives or answers to problems will drop into your spirit man. Those are seeds!

“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Galatians 6:8). This scripture introduces us to two major grounds on which to sow. You can either sow on the grounds of the Holy Spirit or that of the flesh. Any seed sown on fleshy grounds yields an evil harvest. For instance, if you give to support the church projects so that men can recognize your generous donation, you would have lost your heavenly reward. It is only when you sow good seeds on the soil of the Holy Spirit that you are guaranteed a good harvest. What kind of seeds have you been sowing? On what grounds do you regularly sow?

Be careful where you sow. You will reap from where you have sown. This produces sorrow in the life of an adulterer. Every man has seeds in him, but you cannot tell what each seed will become, except God reveals it to you. Sex with someone other than one’s spouse could make you sow your most precious seed or gift - your Abel, on a wrong or evil soil. Many have sown the seeds that should become presidents, world class industrialists and their financial messiahs into a wrong soil - a prostitute or another man’s wife, and in the process lost both the seed and the harvest. Hence Proverbs 6:32-33 warns that an adulterer lacks understanding because he is sowing seeds that should bring blessings to his family into a wrong soil. This is why some people are beyond redemption. Some can no more be drawn up from poverty, ignominy and reproach as the seed sent by God to do this has been lost.

Have you been fornicating or masturbating? Immediately repent, turn a new leaf and ask God for mercy so that you are not beyond redemption.

WHAT IDOLATRY DOES TO IDOLATERS

MEMORIZE: "They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them" (Psalms 15:8)

READ: Psalms 115:4-8

What you serve determines your destiny. You would become what you idolize. You conform to what you serve. If you serve a cow, you will gradually lose your human instincts and imbibe the traits of a cow. If you worship a snake, you will wriggle like one. Have you seen someone possessed of a serpentine spirit during deliverance? You would think you are seeing a human snake! Never serve what you don’t want to become, because you will surely become what you serve.

Idolatry does a lot of havoc to the idolater. From today’s reading, there are certain things relevant to the discourse. First, idolaters make their idols of silver and gold. Silver and gold in this sense are a means of exchange. Every idolater becomes a means of exchange, or articles of merchandise in the hands of the devil. If you serve idols, you lose your worth and become vulnerable in the hands of the idol served. Idolatry has reduced idolaters to mere commodities from the priceless value which they were created to be. No idolater is secured as the fellow may be required as sacrifice by the gods served. Hence calls for donation of loved ones, parts of one’s body and even one’s life as sacrifice to idols, witches and occult groups, keep coming to those in league with the dark kingdom.

Another lesson here is that just as idols have no senses, the idolater gradually loses the sense of smell, touch, sight, taste and hearing. The implication of this is that the idolater becomes most vulnerable, the most insecure individual around. They cannot smell when danger is near. They are blind to spiritual truths and even normal physical realities. They become less sensitive and unfeeling because their idol lacks such traits. Natural sensitivity is lost in the process of idolatrous practices. Why do you think a woman who became a witch in order to ‘protect’ her children from enemies, would later present such children as food in their coven? It is because, she has lost the heart she was created with, and has become insensitive to others, like the idol she serves. If your sensibilities, feelings, and sense of direction are becoming extinct, check yourself. You might be idolizing something. You cannot serve God and not feel for your fellow human being. If you are wicked to your neighbor particularly a fellow believer, there is an idol in your life draining your sensibilities. Repent and pull down every idol today.

ATTITUDE TO DIVINE TASKS

MEMORIZE: "And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said untome, so I speak" (John 12:50)

READ: Numbers 11:10-17

"And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone" (Numbers 11:17).

When the pressure of ministry was becoming too much for Moses, he cried to the One who sent him. And help came. A common mistake among bonafide ministers is that whenever they encounter problems concerning their ministerial assignments, they go to man.
Consulting earth for heaven-based assignments may keep help far from you. When a manager encounters difficulties in his official assignments, he reports to his superiors or employer for help. Why do we rather go to where there is no help? Another lesson here is that God uses challenges to gauge our level of dependence on Him. Do you know that if Moses had not cried to God about his challenge, God would not have sent him help? The work load would have crushed him. How dependent on the Holy Spirit are you?

In John 12:49-50, Jesus tells us one of His secrets to ministerial success. After being commissioned by God, He got stuck with the terms of reference given to Him. He would not say anything until His Father told Him what to say. He would heal no one except His Father had guided Him on whom He wants healed. He was always waiting on the Father. Why did Jesus not immediately swing into action after the wine finished at the marriage feast at Cana, especially after His mother made a case for the couple? It was because He was yet to hear from the Father, even when the need was obvious. Your level of success in ministry is a function of your degree of dependence on the Holy Spirit.

God is not only interested in assigning you to a task; He is even more interested in your completing it according to His set time. Many leaders have had problems with the timing of divine assignments. What Heaven wants done, is expected done according to the time allocated to it. Some people are just doing what they should have done several weeks, months, or even years before. When you fail in timing, it could affect the output of the work and Heaven’s reward. Sometimes, when there is delay in performance of a heavenly task, it is reassigned to someone else. Why? Every heavenly task given to you is an opportunity to be rewarded. What’s your attitude to divine tasks?

AROMA COMPELLING FIRE

MEMORIZE: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63)

READ: Jeremiah 20:7-11

"Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak anymore in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay" (Jeremiah 20:9).

One symbol through which God manifests His presence is fire. Any believer who embarks on the Christian race without fire is taking a great risk. John 6:63 says until the Holy Spirit dwells in you through God’s words, you will not be quickened. Dead woods never give glory to God. Believers who are cold, lukewarm, indifferent, and compromising are dead woods that never glorify God. It takes a living, fiery Christian to put his enemies to flight, please God and accomplish destiny. If you are on fire for God, it shows spiritually and physically. Spiritually, the enemies will see it and run from you. They would be afraid to come near so that they are not consumed. Physically, it will manifest as the glory of God on your face. Besides, it will keep pushing you on the path of righteousness.

Have you ever felt bored or discouraged to the point of resolving not to preach or to take part in certain activities? Jeremiah felt the same. He resolved never to even mention God’s name again. But the Word of God in his heart as fire burned to the point that he could no longer sustain his anti-God posture. If you are no longer doing what you used to do for God, and you feel comfortable, it is an evidence of absence of God’s fire. If you do not feel any prick when you contact a sinner and let such an individual go, it shows you do not have fire anymore.

When divine fire is in you, it makes your life sweet. Leviticus 1:17 talks of a burnt sacrifice. There is a difference between a sacrifice without fire and one with fire. The former has no smell, but the latter produces an aroma that makes those around to notice it. It is when the fire of God comes on your life on God’s altar that it produces a sweet smell. Several believers either stink or are odorless. As long as you do not allow God’s fire to burn negative traits and habits hindering the release of your sweet aroma, nobody will know you. Even your sacrifice will not be noticed. Ask God to send His fire upon you to burn every dross, lukewarmness, prayerlessness, and secret sins from your life so that your life can release a sweet smelling aroma that Heaven cannot ignore.

VICTIM OF THE NIGHT?

MEMORIZE: "Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:" (Job 4:15)

READ: Job 4:12-17

The first thing we notice in Luke 2:7-14 is that an angel came from Heaven to meet shepherds who were keeping watch at night. Night time is time for angelic visitation. Those who can stay in God’s presence at night or hold vigils, are likely recipients of angelic visits. Besides, because that time is quiet and most activities have stopped, it is the time spirits -both good and bad operate. If you want to contact the Spirit of God, night time is one ideal time to facilitate that desire. How do you spend your nights? If you regularly sleep through your nights, you will soon become a casualty of night enemy operations. Night time is control time. It is time to take charge and bind the spirits in operation in any matter. Some stubborn problems you may have cannot withstand persistent vigils of one, two or more weeks. If that’s the price you have to pay, do so and get your desired outcome.

A particular church struggled for years without being able to make ends meet. It was bedeviled by certain forces of darkness within and without. One day, a member of the choir was arrested by the Holy Spirit, and she confessed that she and some co-choristers belonged to a group in the kingdom of darkness which was headed by the choir leader. They were given different assignments, one of which was to bring key leaders of the church into fornication. The choir leader was assigned to seduce the pastor. Externally, the church was embattled. Several times, the members came into their rented hall to find some charms tucked into one corner or another. One particular night, a few brothers went for a vigil in the church hall. While they were praying at the extreme front, they observed that some cats were sitting on chairs holding their own vigil at the extreme back. So they walked to where the cats were, challenged and unseated them.

When they reported to the pastor, he felt the situation was getting out of hand. He called for a month of fasting and vigils. By the end of the period, several witches in the neighborhood had died and were buried. Prominent witch doctors relocated to other streets. Some other members of the satanic group confessed and were delivered. The church experienced progress in different areas and was never the same again. Do you know that you can settle that family problem at night? You can take time to wait on the Lord for a period and make sure you spend time to praise and worship Him, as well as to supplicate every night from 12 midnight to 3 or 4 am. You can rename problems, control or check spirits and have your desires. It is time to keep sleep from your eyes. It is time to leave the comfort of your bed just to be in God’s presence. Never allow sleep to turn you into a victim of the night!

ACTIONPOINT: The next three days are very crucial for a user of this Devotional. You are about to enter your breakthrough. Seek God's face in fasting, and hold vigils within the period paralyzing every negative spirit sent to you, and worshipping God.

WHICH OBJECT OF WORSHIP?

MEMORIZE: "And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat" (Mark 6:31)
READ: Mark 6:30-32

"Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father" (John 4:21).

Going to mountains for the purpose of sacrifices and worship has been an ancient custom of the Jews. When Jesus came, He frequently visited mountains for the purpose of worship and fellowship with His Father. But unknown to many, His coming brought about a change. It relocated the mountains to the spiritual mountain of the heart. In a Samaritan city named Sychar, Jesus met a woman at a well. As they discussed, He observed her ignorance over the change in worship, and told her there was no need to travel all the way to a mountain before one could worship God.

Today, it is becoming the norm to visit ‘prayer’ mountains. In fact, some people are now building certain myths around mountains. Some Christians do not believe they can hear God except they go to a mountain several miles away. Surprisingly, the lives of some mountain visitors is nothing to write home about. If we should go by what Jesus told the Samaritan woman, God expects worship to be in spirit and in truth, not on prayer mountains. That means, it is not your physical presence on a prayer mountain that guarantees answers to prayers, but satisfying Heaven’s requirements for acceptable worship. Some have turned ‘prayer’ mountains into commercial ventures.

“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while, for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat” (Mark 6:31). Apart from visiting mountains, Jesus frequently resorted to deserts. Why? To avoid distractions in worship.

It is perfectly in order to go to mountains for the purpose of avoiding distractions, but not to turn them into another idol. Some Christians never believe in their prayers until they visit a mountain. That was the error of the Samaritans - turning ‘prayer’ mountains into objects of worship. This you must avoid. God expects you to have this mountain in your house. Set apart a room - your study, for the purpose of uninterrupted worship. If you have a smaller apartment, you can set some time apart at night on a regular basis. Establish a family altar where the family would gather regularly to pray. Let your heart be free from defilement so that God can always answer you whenever you call. The feat some people accomplish for several days or weeks on a prayer mountain can be accomplished faster by others in their bedrooms. It is your manner of worship that matters.

ACTIONPOINT: Some Christians have become so lazy that when confronted by a simple challenge, rather than pray, they go to a 'prayer' mountain to pay somebody to do it for them.

HANDLING ELDERS

MEMORIZE: "Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility" (Proverbs 18:12)

READ: 1 Timothy 5:17-18

There is a saying, that if a child has wisdom, he gives it to the elders to use. This is the root of African greatness. You would not want to outshine your elders: if you attempt it, that could lead to an early grave. Wait for your turn. Those who honor elders are sowing a seed. 1 Timothy 5:17 says, “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labor in the word and doctrine”. Galatians 6:7 says we must reap whatever we sow. This is why people who make it a duty to honor elders end up living to become an elder. They will also be severally honored as elders.

When the Lord inspired me to begin the first Christ The Redeemer’s Congress, I did not immediately go to print posters and other publicity materials. I first ran to my father in the Lord and relayed the vision to him. He asked me to go while he tabled it before the Lord. Thereafter, he gave me the go- ahead. Today, I realize I acted wisely because having started, and the forces of hell were unleashed against me, he was the one who backed me up in prayers. Similarly, several years ago when I was in Kwara state, we made plans to evangelize in a particular village that several people- including my interpreter- confirmed was a ‘no go area’. So I ran to Lagos to inform my father in the Lord to ask if we could go. The moment he said we could go, I ignored every other stumbling block and contrary advice and went. Today, the RCCG is thriving in those places because I did not want to outshine my father in the Lord.

The elders have a saying: If a child killed a rat or grass-cutter and ate it alone, the day he kills a bigger animal, they will see if he can eat it alone. Education is one thing, experience is another. How have you been treating your elders? How do you relate with those God has put over you? Many die before their time for failing to honor elders. The fellow who always dishonors, disgraces, disobeys or abuses elders, may not grow up to be one. Do not send yourself to an early grave. Do not prematurely terminate God’s plan for your life. That elder could be your cover. Be wise.

TESTIMONY: AN ACT OF FAITH

MEMORIZE: "Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them" (Psalms 119:129)

READ: Psalms 119:129-138

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). The Word of God is the door by which faith enters the heart of a man. Faith is a highly priced virtue that anyone who believes in Christ must have. In the same way, testimony is a work of faith.
Faith can also enter the heart of a man through the door of testimonies. Whenever you share your testimony, it stirs up faith in your hearers. Even when you rehearse your testimonies to yourself, it achieves the same effect. Your testimony is an act of faith that is recorded in your favor as righteousness. Whenever you fail to testify of God’s goodness, it is recorded by Heaven as an act of unbelief. Testimony hoarders are not living a life of faith, but one of unbelief. If you cannot stir up the faith of others, you quench it.

“Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them” (Psalms 119:129). Another name the Word of God is called is ‘Testimony’. This shows the importance of testimonies. A good portion of the book of Psalms is devoted to testifying of God’s goodness at different levels - personal, family, community, national and international. Testifying of what God has done in your life and that of others is an act of obedience. Each testimony shared gives God a good mileage in glory. When Jesus asked the Gadarene demoniac of Mark 5:1-20 to go and testify, it shows He expects us to do so. If you have locked up your testimony, you are exhibiting disobedience.

Testifying of God’s goodness helps to trigger more testimonies for the testifier. Refusing to do so blocks further testimonies. Unshared testimonies are debts. Sharing your testimony is a way of paying your debt as no debtor can enter Heaven. Another benefit of testimony is that once shared, it helps to concretize the blessing. A testimony signals the end of a test. If you fail to testify, it is assumed the period of trial is still on. That means you are still undergoing an examination. Testifying therefore shows that you have passed the test and have been certificated for promotion. Your testimony is the security your blessing needs. Testimony like the Word is a two-way sword - it benefits the testifier, and the hearer while glorifying the Almighty. If you take a look at the life of a faithful testifier, you will observe that he or she always has something to testify about. That means God is always intervening in the life of the fellow. When last did you testify? Use your testimony to affect lives from today. You can turn it into a tract and at the end lead the readers to Christ. Somebody somewhere might just be waiting to hear or read about your powerful testimony!

ANY ROOM?

MEMORIZE: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1).

READ: 2 Samuel 6:9-12

Pour cup of cold water can affect lives of others as well as that of the giver. In Joshua 2:1-21, Rahab was hospitable to two Israeli spies and that led to the salvation of herself and her entire household. The one you save today could become your saviour tomorrow. At a time the Israeli nation was in dread and did not know what to do with the newly recovered Ark of the covenant, one man came to their rescue. King David who had seen judgement fall on Uzzah who tried to hold back the Ark from falling immediately jumped at the offer. He needed another guinea pig who might lose his life, but he could not be that person. The Ark stayed in the house of Obededom for three months. By the time king David sent to inquire whether Obededom was still alive, he was told that God so blessed him that he became the envy of all around him. Even till today, his story is still making rounds just because he gave out a cup of cold water!

Like king David, some people are afraid to take the first step or spearhead a particular project. The cup of cold water in this regard is for you to prayerfully take the step. In 1 Kings 17:8-16, the widow of Zarephath fed a hungry prophet from her limited meal and God multiplied it. Her last meal became her first just because she cared for the man of God. Later, when death came calling on her household, they were spared. It pays to serve true servants of God. In 2 Kings 4:8-17, the Shunammite woman opened her house to a man of God and she got what her money could not buy. From now on, as you give out that cup of cold water, you will never lack any good thing in Jesus’ Name.

Sometime ago, while discussing with my Daddy, He asked me to tell Him the greatest loser since the world began. I said Adam because he messed up and was driven out of the Garden of Eden. Daddy said Adam was a loser but not the greatest loser. Then I said it must be Cain because he was the first born and was supposed to inherit all things yet he lost all. After Cain was knocked out, I kept mentioning others.

Unable to get the answer, I asked the Lord to tell me who the greatest loser was. He said it was the Inn Keeper on the day Jesus was born. The Saviour of the world, the Creator of Heaven and earth was to be born in his room but he said ‘No room’. He stood to gain in every way. His name would have been written in gold but he said ‘No room’. Every time God gives you an opportunity to serve Him it is because He wants to reward you with something that lasts forever. Anytime you turn down requests to support the Kingdom, you are saying ‘No room’. Is there any room in your life for Jesus?

ACTIONPOINT
If there is no room for Jesus, create one for Him in every area of your life.

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Isa 31-33

COMPLAINING OR REPORTING?

MEMORIZE: "Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob" (Isaiah 41:21).

READ: Matthew 8:1-3

Another lesson from the wedding in Cana of Galilee recorded in John 2:1-11, is that when their wine ran out, they immediately reported to Jesus. Every believer must cultivate the habit of reporting unpleasant events and enemies to the Lord. In Matthew 8:1-3, a man was afflicted with leprosy. All the years he kept quiet, he remained a victim of the disease. When it almost killed him, he ran to the Lord and reported it. He was healed instantly. Similarly, a prophet’s widow and her two sons suffered so much under their creditor who decided to take the boys as slaves. The woman could no longer bear it so she reported the issue to God, and her poverty was reversed to abundance (2 Kings 4:1-7). God expects you to report your needs to Him. Any disturbance you report to God automatically gets into trouble with God.

“Produce your cause, saith the LORD, bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob” (Isaiah 41:21). The reason many people hardly receive divine intervention is because they prefer to talk to men than God. Christians prefer to look for those who are sympathetic to their cause and spend hours, days, weeks, months and even years complaining about their predicament. Yet the help they require is beyond man. God expects you to report such situations to Him. He says you should lay your complaints and argue out your case using His Word as the basis for your desired change. Why do you waste so much time on those who cannot help you, and spend so little time on God who can make all the difference? You are not expected to report your problems to the General Overseer or your pastor because they also have their challenges. But you can report to the Burden Bearer. He will help you without mocking at you. He knows how to keep your secrets. Leave Him to determine how to deal with your enemies. Some of your enemies you want dead, God wants saved, so that you can become brethren. There are cases earthly courts cannot try but with the heavenly court there is no restriction. Those days in the Redemption Camp, certain little birds swarmed on the trees and destroyed them. We shot at them in a bid to kill them yet they multiplied.

Meanwhile Convention was approaching. While travelling one day, I reported to the Lord. Before long, a band of eagles descended and devoured the birds. Many secrets are freely given to enemies in the process of complaining. But if you cultivate the habit of reporting to God, your secrets will remain secret, and you will have your miracle. Stop complaining, start reporting to God!

USING APPROPRIATE WEAPONS

MEMORIZE: "And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith" (Judges 15:15)

READ: Judges 15:14-15

Another lesson from Job 14:7-12 is that leaving your first love always leads to a fall. In today’s reading, Jesus addressed the Ephesian church. He commended them for their good works, labors, patience, hatred for evil, ability to discern, etc. The only thing He held against them was leaving their first love. He threatened to remove His Spirit if they did not return to their first love. They did not steal, fornicate, fight or lie. This is an area today believers have fallen without knowing. Some think that the only time they sin is when they commit the popular sins. Do you know you hurt God by loving Him less? You toy with His feelings. Whenever you diminish in your love for God, you are making a statement that God is no more as important to you as He used to. Spending less time in God’s presence tells God that you have found something more important that needs your time. Whenever you depart from your first love, you provoke God to jealousy.

Recast your mind to the days you newly received Jesus. Can you remember the vows, pledges, and dedication you made to Him? It was such a beautiful relationship. Oh! You loved the Lord. You loved Him so much that you were afraid to offend Him. Without being reminded, you sat down for hours studying His Word. Sometimes, while others are sleeping at night, you are awake just fellowshipping with God, wanting to know Him better. Those days, you did not need anyone to compel you to preach. There was a fire within propelling you to declare the Gospel out of your love for Him. You could not stand the thought of seeing someone go to hell. You were very regular at church meetings. Most times you were in church before the service, praying. Being in God’s presence was such a delight. It came from your heart. Obeying God on any issue was a thing of joy. You feared and respected your pastor and any man of God. You could give just anything to the Lord on request.

But how is it today? Where is the fire of love for God that once characterized your life? If it is no more there, then you have fallen. Today, where we used to run from are now where we are frequently seen. We have returned to our vomit. We have recovered our sacrifices from the altar. Work, pleasure and other things are now more important to us. Souls, even relations could die and go to hell, while we remain unperturbed. We have left our first love. The Lord is very unhappy with this and He wants you to return to where you fell from. Your first love is a height of fellowship which you fell from. Refusing to return there can bring terrible consequences. Repent and return to your first love!

ACTIONPOINT
Why many believers and ministers fail to overcome their challenges is because they try to keep God away from His business.

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Isa 19-21

WHY WORSHIP IS REJECTED

MEMORIZE: "But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matt. 15:9)

READ: Matthew 15:7-9

Apart from restricting worship to a place or location, lack of revelational knowledge of who is being worshiped, and using phrases with little or no Word content, another reason for rejection of worship is when it is not spirit-based. For you to offer acceptable worship to God, it must be from a recreated spirit. Some unbelievers think worship is merely having a good voice, combined with an understanding of music. It is more than that. Salvation is fundamental to worship because it is the process by which your spirit man which was dead, can be recreated in Christ. As long as your spirit man is dead, you cannot worship God in spirit. All head-based worship can take you nowhere except you are born of the spirit, hence Jesus says, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit is Spirit” (John 3:6). No sinner can worship God in spirit. Even as a believer, the moment you harbor sin in your heart, your worship will be rejected.

Similarly, any worship that is not done in truth is unacceptable to God. Today, there is so much hypocrisy in worship. Matthew 15:8 says, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart far from me”. Any worship that does not go beyond lip service is rejected by God. Whenever you worship God, He comes to find out if there is agreement between your heart and lips. If your mouth is saying one thing but your heart is saying another, Heaven’s conclusion is that such a worship is vain. There is no reward for it. This goes to show that God expects us to mean what we say in worship. If you say, ‘God, you are so good’ but in your heart you are wondering if He is as good as is claimed, that worship will not be accepted. Anytime you query God’s Word, infinite mercy, and goodness, any worship you render at such times will be rejected.

Hebrews 10:22 says whenever you come before God, come with a true heart. In other words, be sincere in your approach and motive. Also, you should come in faith. If you do not believe your worship will achieve its purpose, it will be fruitless. No evil- bitterness, grudge, lie, unbelief, unforgiving spirit, etc. must be found in your heart. Your body- particularly your hands must be clean. There should be no sinful record against you so that your worship can be acceptable. Today, many worship God with lust, lies, envy and grudges: no wonder their worship does not go beyond the roof. When you worship God, worship Him for who He is, and what He has done, and not necessarily for what you want from Him (Matt. 4:9). If your worship is always tied to material things you expect from Him, it is selfish and vain. Worship Him out of love.

ACTIONPOINT
Spend at least two hours to worship the Almighty God today. The heart that harbors sin cannot offer quality worship. Sanitize your heart before worship.

POWER OF A TESTIMONY

Memorize: “And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did” (John 4:39)

READ: John 4:27-42

Apart from being used as a tool of evangelism, testimonies can also draw people to Christ. The Samaritan woman encountered Jesus at the well and knew there was something different about Him, particularly when He revealed her state without being told. She left her water pot and went into the city to share her testimony. Many of the Samaritans came to Jesus because of her testimony, and a revival broke out. Jesus and His disciples were begged to stay for two days. Never underestimate the power of your testimony! The woman testified of what Jesus told her and she added: ‘Don’t you think this fellow who could reveal my past and present, is the Christ we have been waiting for?’ As you testify, you could also add: “Don’t you think the One who did this for me is capable of solving your problem too?”

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death” (Revelation 12:11).

From this scripture, we know that testimony is a very powerful weapon of our warfare. Imagine testimony being placed side by side with the blood of the lamb in overcoming the enemies! When you plead the blood of Jesus, your enemies flee. When you share your testimony, your enemies also flee. The enemy cannot withstand the power of a testimony! Praise God. You cannot be an overcomer if you do not use your testimonies to overcome. No matter how much you plead the blood of Jesus, you cannot fully overcome until you back it up by sharing your testimony.

Another strength of a testimony is that it is a seed capable of reproducing itself in the lives of the hearers. One single testimony can birth thousands of different or similar testimonies in other people. For instance, if you have been trusting God for the fruit of the womb for six years, and you meet a couple who got their baby after 18 years, it will stir up faith in you to receive yours. You cannot tell, your testimony may be what somebody somewhere is waiting to hear in order to receive faith to birth his or hers. Share your testimonies! As long as you keep it to yourself, you deny many people of their blessings and you will be held responsible someday. One reason God did what He did in your life is so that your testimony can trigger that of others. How are you utilizing this powerful tool?
